About Matt Woolsey
Matt Woolsey is a native of South Carolina's Midlands region. After living in Columbia for 31 years, he relocated to Charleston in July, 2015. His specialty is shooting urban and nature scenes. Other favorite subjects include flowers, trees, dogs, events, and whatever catches his eye in general. He also enjoys making photographs of people in their favorite settings.
Matt is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor of art degree in English. He also attended Midlands Technical College and earned a Certificate of Professional Photography. His eye for a photograph is complemented by his ability to express in succinct terms what he wished to convey when taking the shot.
A product of small-town and rural South Carolina, Matt first became interested in cities at the age of 20. He soon spent a spring and summer in New York City and then lived in Washington, DC, for five years before moving to Columbia to attend USC.
The topography of the Midlands, including the area's gently rolling hills and its rivers, lakes and streams, is close to Matt's heart. He likes that Columbia is now preserving its older architecture amid a changing city-scape. His decision to move to Charleston was not an easy one, but he was ready to immerse himself in some new scenery.
Whether shooting a nature scene, a city scene, a still life, or anything that he sees through the viewfinder of his camera, Matt's goal is to create realistic images that truly depict what he sees. Stay tuned as he begins to become more familiar with Charleston's beautiful and interesting landscape and starts clicking in and around the Holy City.
